Mount Emei
Mount Emei is located southwest of Chengdu and has the reputation of being one of Sichuan’s most popular tourist attractions for its breathtaking views, fantastic natural scenery, and its many temples. Mount Emei has many beautiful hiking trails and for those who wish to relax there are cable cars that offer breathtaking vistas. Originally an important Taoist location, after the Buddha Samantabhadra spoke on the slopes of the mountain, temples began to spring up and it quickly became an important center for Buddhism. Mount Emei is also one of the four sacred mountains in Buddhism.
While visiting Mount Emei it is recommended that you visit the numerous temples on the mountain. The most notable of all the temples are Baoguo Temple, Wanfoding Temple, and Jinding Temple. Besides these larger temples there are many smaller Buddhist temples where guests can spend a night and eat authentic vegetarian Buddhist food, all in the tranquil setting of the temple.
